
Dr Max Ray is a consultant cardiologist at Newcastle Adult & Paediatric Heart Centre. He trained at the University of Newcastle and completed advanced cardiology training at John Hunter Hospital, followed by fellowship training in cardiac imaging and heart failure.
He undertook a dedicated Sports Cardiology Fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and the National Centre for Sports Cardiology, and maintains ongoing professional links with these institutions. He also holds a public appointment at John Hunter Hospital.
Dr Ray provides cardiovascular assessment and care for athletes across all levels, from elite professionals to recreational athletes, and has experience working with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS), and professional sporting organisations such as the AFL and NRL.
He sees patients referred from across Newcastle, the Hunter Region, the Central Coast, and New South Wales, with appointments conducted via Newcastle Adult & Paediatric Heart Centre.
